Preparing for fire & reducing fire hazards

We all have a role to play in ensuring effective management of fire hazards, doing what we can to prevent a fire emergency.

Preparing your property

Property owners are encouraged to be aware of the potential fire hazards on their properties, taking action to remove those hazards before they reach the stage where they become a serious fire risk an abatement notice may be issued.

A great first step for all property owners is to participate in the Tasmania Fire Service Bushfire-Ready Challenge. Register and receive weekly challenges across a 4-week program, helping your household plan and prepare for bushfire season!

If you require assistance to remove fire risk from your property you may need to engage contractors – please see the FAQs on the Fire Abatement page for more information.

If you have been issued with a Fire Abatement Notice and are unable to remove the fire risk within the prescribed period, please contact Council immediately by telephoning 03 6471 4700 to speak with a Compliance Officer.
