Biannual Kerbside Collection

Twice a year Council offers a free kerbside collection of larger items that aren’t suitable for placing in the weekly household wheelie bin collection.

Collection dates are advertised on this website, along with on Council noticeboards, newsletters and social media.

You must register to have items picked up. Items left out for collection that are not registered with Council for pickup will not be collected.

The collection is a great way to:

  • help those who may not have a way to get larger items to transfer stations
  • encourage responsible waste management
  • keep our communities clean

The collection is available for all West Coast households.  Commercial/business properties are not eligible and should contact Council to discuss accessing the Zeehan Landfill for disposal of larger items.

What can be collected

  • furniture
  • electrical appliances
  • bundled green waste
  • car body (1 per household)

What can’t be collected

  • asbestos
  • broken glass
  • concrete
  • fuels & oils
  • gas bottles
  • items over 3 metres long
  • paint tins
  • soil
  • tyres

Safety during the collection

Unsafe piles can create risks for residents and collection crews. There are several key safety considerations that residents should follow when participating in the free kerbside collection:

  • Place items on the kerb no earlier than the weekend before collection
  • Keep piles well clear of roads, footpaths, driveways and gutters
  • Make sure items don’t block pedestrian access, especially for prams, wheelchairs or mobility scooters
  • Avoid exposed sharp edges and secure loose items so they don’t move in the wind
  • Keep children and pets away from kerbside items

By putting items out correctly and safely, we can make sure the collection runs smoothly and benefits the whole West Coast community.
