There will be no kerbside collection on Christmas Day. Should your collection fall on Christmas Day we will advise on this website, on local radio and our Facebook page what the alternative collection day will be. Kerbside collection operates as usual on other public holidays.
For those renting a property:
- Tenants wanting additional Waste Bins: must supply evidence of the property owner’s permission when applying for additional bins.
- Tenants wanting additional Recycle Bins: Tenants cannot apply for additional recycle bins. This must be done by the property owner.
What can we do to help reduce waste?
If you can, try to divert recyclable items from your waste bin to your recycle bin.
Reducing household waste can take some changes to old habits, but watching what goes into our wheelie bins will make a positive difference to waste management in our region. More information about recycling can be found on the Recycling page.
Frequently Asked Questions

If you have large, bulky items see if they qualify for our Annual Clean Up or can be taken to our Landfill
Wheelie bins must be placed at the kerbside, clear of obstructions, prior to 6am on the morning of collection, or the night before. Wheelie bins must be in sound condition for collection.
Waste and recycling collections will be consistent throughout the year. The only exception is if a collection is scheduled on one of the following public holidays:
- Good Friday
- ANZAC Day
- Christmas Day
Any changes to collection schedules will be communicated in advance, along with information about alternative collection days. Stay updated through our News section on the website and social media channels.
When placing your bin out for collection, please make sure that:
- The bin is placed out on time – we recommend doing so the night before your scheduled collection day as there is no guarantee the collection truck will arrive at the same time as previous weeks
- The wheels are facing away from the kerb
- The wheelie bin is as close to the kerb as possible
- It is on level ground
- It is at least one metre away from other wheelie bins and other obstructions such as trees and power poles which would obstruct the mechanical arm of the truck
- The lid is fully shut on the bin
- There are no additional items placed on top or around the bin
- In some small cul-de-sacs it may be necessary to place the bins together at the entrance to the cul-de-sac where the road is usually straighter, as the mechanical arm may have difficulties reaching bins that are placed on the curved parts of the kerb.
Collection services begin early in the morning and there is no guarantee that it will occur at the same time on all collection days.
To ensure your bin is ready for collection, please place the bin kerbside before 6am on the scheduled collection day. We recommend doing so the night before your scheduled collection.
No additional collection will be provided to properties where the bin wasn’t placed out in time for collection.
The most common reasons for bins not being collected include:
- Bins placed on the kerbside after 6am
- Bins were not visible to the driver (possibly blocked from view by a parked car)
- Bins were overflowing – the lid must be closed
- The wrong bin was placed out for collection.
- Recycling bins will not be collected on general waste collection days and vice versa
- Bins were considered to be contaminated, with unacceptable waste in it
Collection may also sometimes be delayed if there has a been a breakdown of the truck.
If your bin hasn’t been emptied by 3.30pm on your normal collection day, and none of the above applies, please contact Council.
General waste wheelie bins (with a green lid) are owned by residents. For those in rental housing sometimes these bins are provided to tenants by the landlord, whilst other times residents/tenants purchase their own. Please check with your property agent.
If you have purchased the bin you can take it with you when you move. If the bin was at the property when you arrived or provided by the landlord the bin must remain at the property when you leave.
Recycling wheelie bins (yellow lid) belong to the property owner and should stay at the property. See
Recycling Collection information
Please be mindful that the truck that collects the waste from these bins has limitations on the type of bins it can collect.
