Regulated Systems

The Public Health Act 1997 provides that specified regulated systems such as Cooling Towers and Warm Water systems require registration under the Act.

The purpose of the registration is to assist in tracing possible environmental sources of legionella infection. It is also to improve the maintenance and operation of cooling tower and warm water systems to minimize opportunities for legionella spread. Owners of premises containing these systems must register the premises and operate the regulated systems in accordance with the Guidelines for the Control of Legionella in Regulated Systems.

Annual registration of regulated systems and their compliance with the Guidelines are monitored by Council’s Environmental Health Officers to protect the public from outbreaks of Legionella disease.
