Camping Grounds

 

 

The Council operates camping grounds at Macquarie Heads and Lake Burbury with both facilities well used by both locals and tourists.

Macquarie Heads Camping Ground is located at the northern end of Macquarie Harbour, Strahan, travelling along a gravel road.  Campsites are available for a small daily fee and a caretaker is on site.  Macquarie Heads Camping Ground provides good grassed sites next to the Harbour and is suitable for tents, caravans, campervans and motorhomes.  Boat ramp, public toilet and dump point available.  Carry your own water and firewood. Have a picnic at the nearby Swan Basin Picnic Area, walk along Ocean Beach and fish in Macquarie Harbour.

Lake Burbury Camping Ground is located on the Lyell Highway, twenty minutes east of Queenstown travelling towards Hobart.  Campsites are available for a small daily fee and a caretaker is on site.  Lake Burbury Camping Ground provides two good grassed sites next to Lake Burbury and is suitable for tents, caravans, campervans and motorhomes.  Boat ramp and public toilet is available.   Lake Burbury is located on the edge of the World Heritage Wilderness Area.  Carry your own water and firewood.  Have a picnic or use the BBQ's, fish in the Lake or enjoy water sports such as kayaking and canoeing.
