Mayor's Message 15 November 2016

TasNetworks are hosting a forum in Queenstown next Monday – members of the public are welcome and it will be a great opportunity to learn more about pricing and the future of power supply

The forum will be held at the Council Chambers from 4pm – please RSVP to TasNetworks by calling 62716469.

Time is running out to nominate for individuals and organisations for the West Coast Australia Day Awards.  As part of the Australia Day 2017 celebrations awards will be presented to Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.  Nominations close on 25 November, with forms available from the Council office.

It is pleasing to see confidence growing within the tourism industry on the West Coast, with new operators commencing business.  This includes Strahan Helicopters who will operate from the Esplanade Car Park.  Helicopter flights are expected to commence in late November, with flight bookings to be made through the West Coast Visitor Centre.  I encourage anyone with a business idea or looking to invest in the West Coast to contact Simon Lee, our Economic Development, Tourism & Events Coordinator for advice and assistance.

Time flies when you’re having fun and before we know it we have our monthly Council meeting tonight from 5pm in Queenstown. Matters to be considered this month include a report regarding the Strahan and Queenstown Aerodromes, proposed alterations to the fees and charges and applications for assistance under the Financial and In-Kind Support Policy. Anyone interested in learning more about how their local council works is invited to come along to the meeting.
