West Coast Council starts search for its next General Manager

West Coast Council is set to embark on a search to appoint a new General Manager to lead it through its next exciting phase, after it was announced David Midson would finish with the organisation at the end of the year.

Mayor Shane Pitt said the decision to announce the move at this point had been made in order to a ensure smooth transition to a new leader and give Council the best opportunity to select the most appropriate candidate for the role.

Mayor Pitt thanked Mr Midson for his service to the West Coast and highlighted the immense progress made at Council and throughout the community during his time as General Manager.

“David has led a team that has delivered a number of major and game-changing projects as well as demonstrated an ability to take on Council’s hopes and vision for the community, attract funding and deliver great outcomes,” Mayor Pitt said.

“We have been fortunate to have a leader who can work with the community to find creative solutions and who hasn’t been afraid to think differently about how things can be achieved.”

Mr Midson said he was extremely grateful for the opportunity afforded to him by the West Coast Council to live and work in a great region of Tasmania.

“In my time at Council I have been proud to lead a team who have delivered for the community, including record investment in assets and infrastructure, record support from Federal and State Governments to the region,” Mr Midson said.

“I am also proud to have helped lay the foundations for the West Coast to diversify its economy, including delivering a set of unique mountain bike trails and supporting growing economic activity across the West Coast through arts, culture and screen economy projects such as Bay of Fires,” Mr Midson said.

Mayor Pitt thanked David for agreeing to support the Council in the transition to the next General Manager.

“We acknowledged the current tightness in the labour market, but I am confident we will secure the right candidate due to a period of record investment in the West Coast coupled with the time the General Manager has provided to allow Council to undertake an appropriate search,” Mayor Pitt said.
