WEST COAST PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION PROVES POPULAR - AWARDS UP FOR GRABS.
The West Coast Photography Competition has attracted hundreds of entries – with submissions still open for another two weeks.
The competition, launched on 31 July, aims to showcase just how good the West Coast is. All photographers, whether using an antique field camera or an iPhone, are encouraged to capture that west-of-centre feeling of life in the West Coast.
“The overall theme of the competition is to showcase the West Coast as a place to live and work, as well as a somewhere to be creative and to visit,” West Coast Council General Manager David Midson said.
“We want everyone to be involved, the competition isn’t just for professional photographers - and we’re excited to announce that thanks to fantastic support entries will be in the running to win some fantastic awards,” West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers announced.
Leading design agency For The People will be fostering creativity in West Coast youth by sponsoring three awards whilst West Coast residents can vie for the West Coaster Award sponsored by Granville Wind Farm.
Those living outside the West Coast will be in the running for fantastic prizes, thanks to World Heritage Cruises and Morrison’s Huon Pine Sawmill.

West Coast Youth – sponsored by For The People
- Under 14 ($200 photography equipment)
- Under 16 ($500 photography equipment)
- Under 18 ($1000 photography equipment)
West Coast Award – sponsored by Granville Wind Farm ($1000)
- Winning entry from a West Coast resident
The Traveller Award – sponsored by World Heritage Cruises and Morrison’s Huon Pine Sawmill ($500)
- Winning entry from person living outside the West Coast
Student’s Choice Award – sponsored by West Coast Council ($250) - Winning entry as selected by West Coast school students
Photographers can share images on Instagram using the hashtag #westcoasttas and tagging @westcoastas, or email images to email@example.com.
Selected images will be showcased in an exhibition in October 2020, when award winners will be announced. Selected images may be used to support the West Coast brand in attracting people to live and work in the region and in building awareness of the region’s creativity.
