As Mayor of the West Coast I would like to thank all who assisted with the rescue of the whales who have been stranded in Macquarie Harbour over the last week. It has been a mammoth effort and I sincerely thank those who lead the rescue effort and those businesses and people who volunteered their time and services. I know that this has been an emotional and tiring journey for those involved and one which will leave a lasting impression of the experience. This is just another example of how the West Coast will come together in those times of need.

I now ask that people take notice of directional signage and road closure information in the Macquarie Heads area while the focus now shifts to the necessary clean-up operation.
