Mayor’s Message 12 June 2018

A reminder that Council will be holding two presentations this week, which may be of interest.

The first is the presentation regarding Strahan Airport Feasibility Study, which will be held at the Strahan Golf Club tomorrow night (13 June) from 6pm. This presentation will provide more information and the chance to have a say on this important study. The second presentation is to provide residents with an overview of the Draft Annual Plan and Budget Estimates, which will be held at the Council chambers on Friday 15 June from 5pm. This is another opportunity for residents to not only find our more about the priorities for the next financial year, but also to have further input into the budget process.

Last week I announced that existing permit holders at the Macquarie Heads Campground will be granted a further four-year temporary permit. In addition to this, new permit holders coming on line after 30 June will be granted two-year temporary permits. These arrangements will provide existing security to existing permit holders and attract new users to the area. With a $200,000 grant from the State Government and an additional $350,000 flagged in the proposed budget for an upgrade of this facility, things are looking very good for users of this important facility.

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Australian of the Year Awards. These awards offer a great avenue to recognise those who go above and beyond for our community. There are four categories – Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (65 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (16 to 30 years) and Australia’s Local Hero. For more information and to nominate please visit www.australianoftheyear.org.au. Nominations close on 31 July 2018.
