The Rosebery Festival is back for its 24th year this weekend. The festival has become a mainstay on the West Coast events calendar and Council is pleased to be able to provide support through our Financial and In-Kind Assistance Policy.

The event runs from Thursday to Sunday and features live theatre, music, poetry, exhibitions by local artists, markets, activities for children and, in a flashback to the past, a billy cart race.  The free activities are held across Rosebery and it’ll be great to see West Coasters and those from other regions at the festival.  Visit the Rosebery Festival website for more details.

West Coasters will have the opportunity to work with consultants to develop a new brand for the West Coast with community meetings in Tullah, Rosebery, Strahan, Zeehan and Queenstown next week.  The new brand will be much more than a logo and applicable to the tourism industry.  It will be something that everyone can believe in and will provide tools for West Coast businesses and organisations across all industries to use.  Details about the project are available via Council’s Facebook page and local media.

A reminder that with the school year recommencing 40km/hr school speed limit zones are in place in several areas across the West Coast.  As always, drive safe and to the conditions, and around schools be mindful of children crossing roads and riding bikes.

The NBN rollout appears to be proceeding well across the West Coast.  I’m aware that some residents are concerned about the condition of footpaths, nature strips etc that have been disturbed as part of the installation.  Council is in regular discussions with NBN and contractor Vision Stream and full reinstatement will be carried out at appropriate times.
