Mayor's Message 29 August 2017

The draft West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy is now available for public comment. The strategy details options for future provision and management of swimming pools on the West Coast.

A public meeting will be held in Queenstown on 4 September where the consultants will provide details about the recommendations.  Council encourage the West Coast community to read the document and provide feedback, with comments due by 8 September.  Copies of the document are available on the project website and Council’s Office and agencies.

Council has confirmed its support for the Mountain Bike trails being worked on by the State Government.  We are hopeful of a partnership approach moving forward and will continue to hold discussions with Parks & Wildlife who are managing the delivery of this important project.  We understand the public is keen to learn more about the trails worked on from Melba Flats to Zeehan, as well as the proposed Queenstown Lower Gravity Trail.  A development application has been lodged with Council for the Gravity Trail project and information will be available to the public shortly.

West Coast involvement in the Australian Masters Games is progressing, with the West Coast Warriors Netball Team registered to participate, and a West Coast AFL team also on the cards.  Thank you to Tassal for their support by way of some sponsorship of the AFL team.  I would encourage other West Coast businesses to get on board with sponsorship, to help reduce the cost to individuals who will need to pay for registration, uniform, travel and accommodation.  These teams, along with the individuals who are competing in sports like shooting and darts, will be great ambassadors for the West Coast.
