Council is hopeful that West Coasters will be able to gain employment when installation of the NBN commences this year.

Our Economic Development, Tourism and Events Coordinator has been in regular contact with NBN and its contractors regarding their workforce requirements and guidelines for working with NBN, including the potential for training to be organised in preparation for the rollout.  We will keep the community updated should this progress positively to the point where West Coasters can attend training or apply for work.

The Weed Management Group is seeking to meet with Cradle Coast NRM to discuss the potential to increase its presence on the West Coast, including the possibility of developing a proactive strategy and implementation of weed eradication programs across the region.   Weed Management requires a partnership approach across all sectors in the region and Council is looking forward to working with Cradle Coast NRM and other stakeholders.

With changes to the Building Act starting on 1 January I feel it is important to remind residents that whilst the requirement to obtain building permits has been relaxed somewhat, anyone looking to make changes to existing buildings, or construct new buildings, are still encouraged to contact Council to ensure compliance with planning regulations.  Licenced builders must also be used for larger projects or a building surveyor engaged to ensure compliance with standards.  It is much better for residents to check with Council and obtain advice than find out after the building is complete that non-compliance has occurred.  This can be both a costly and stressful matter and one that can be avoided.
