Mayor's Message 9 July 2018

Terrific news for the West Coast this week! The Hon. Mitch Fifield, MP for Communications and the Arts and Liberal Candidate for Braddon, Brett Whitely attended the Telecommunications Station in Rosebery this week to officially announce that $700,000 has been allocated to enhance the mobile network coverage on the West Coast.

This will be achieved through a fibre caballing system into the Tasnetworks infrastructure. Good mobile communication and data download is paramount to the success of our region into the future.  Though our numbers are comparably small, our Gross Regional Product runs at 372.6 million. This announcement is a great example of our communities identifying an issue and though negotiations with various parties we were able to bring a positive outcome for the region to fruition.

We are also nearing the start of construction for the Granville Harbour Wind Farm project, due to commence in September. I met with the contractors this week to initiate discussions around logistics and accommodation. One element that really stood out to me during the discussion was the contractors commitment to engaging with the community. This included an upcoming public meeting to inform and engage on their project outlines.

The West Coast Weed Management Group will be holding a launch event on Thursday 12 July at the Zeehan Scout Hall from 12.30pm. They are looking forward to presenting their new strategy and welcome all members of the community to attend. Following the launch, a light BBQ lunch will be held, we look forward to seeing you there!
